Dr. Ellen Huang
Dr. Ellen Huang is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a Registered Acupuncturist. Born and raised in Taiwan, ROC, Ellen has called Calgary home for the past eight years. Her Chinese medical background includes formal training and certification for acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in Alberta, as well as numerous certificates and diplomas from training in prestigious institutes in Taiwan and mainland China.
Ellen uses the full range of traditional Chinese medical techniques, according to the client’s needs and comfort level. These techniques include:
- Acupuncture: the use of thin needles to stimulate circulation and energy flow, and help balance the body's systems, this is good for relieving pain and balancing hormones
- Chinese medicinal herbs: used especially for treating internal problems and chronic ailments
- Tui na: traditional soft tissue therapy, involving special massage techniques and joint manipulation to relieve pressure and pain
- Moxibustion: warming up the body's energy, encouraging motivation, affirmation, turning of breach baby
- Cupping: releasing trauma and bruising, warming muscles and increasing circulation
- Massage: general care of muscles and circulation, and promote the healing of chronic illnesses
- Lifestyle counseling: to help clients towards healthy living through dietary balancing
- Qi gong: relief of pain and pressure through the holding of certain acupuncture points; use of simple exercises to improve health, posture and energy flow
Through consultation with the client, Ellen will determine the most appropriate treatment techniques, and develop a holistic treatment plan for each individual.
Ellen holds a Bachelor's degree from Providence University in Taichung,Taiwan. She then went on to continue her studies at the Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Calgary, one of the oldest and most progressive acupuncture schools in Alberta. She is a registered acupuncturist in Alberta and has successfully completed all licensing requirements in BC as well.
In addition to her training in Canada, Ellen received her certificate of clinical practice in Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine from WHO (World Health Organization) Acupuncture Training Center in Bejing, China, in 2006. She also completed her Certificate of Clinical Acupuncture and Massage Therapy from the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology. Other training and qualifications include a specialist course in abdominal acupuncture, an internship at China’s National Research Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine, and an additional internship with a traditional herbalist in Rangpur, Bangladesh. Ellen keeps her professional knowledge current with ongoing professional development and independent studies, including, recently, qigong and microcurrent electro-acupuncture.
