Joining Valley

Location:

On the dorusm of the hand, betwwn the 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones, and on the radial side of the midpoint of the 2nd metacarpal bone.

Classification:

Yuan-Source point of the Large Intestine Meridian,  useful for any condition related to the face and head.

Indications:

Abdominal Pain • Amenorrhea • Arm Pain, • Constipation • Deafness • Eye Deviation • Eye Disorders • Facial Edema • Facial Muscle Paralysis • Fever Without Sweating • Finger Contraction • Headache • Hemiplegia • Intestinal Disorders • Labor Difficult • Mouth Deviation • Nosebleed • Parotitis • Respiratory Disorders • Skin Disorders • High Fever associated with cold • Throat Soreness • Toothache 

Functions:

Expels Wind and releases the exterior, tonifies qi and strengthens immunity, stops pain, regulates the face and head area, induces labor.

  • particularly useful for Wind-Heat conditions (flu). 
  • known as the pain point in the body.
  • has a function of stimulating efficient contractions.
  • It can be useful during labour if contractions are of irregular intensity.

Needling:

Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1 inch. Moxibustion is applicable. Acupuncture and moxibustion are contraindicated in pregnant women.

Special Notes

BL-60 more for back and lower body; LI-4 is more for upper body and face; other pain points are BL-60 and LR-3; LR-3 and LI-4 are the "four gates" and for whole body pain and moving the qi in the entire body
