Chinese Name:

Tianzhu 天柱

English translation:

Celestial Pillar

Location:

On the nape, in the depression on the lateral border of m. trapezius, within the posterior hairline, 1.3 cun lateral to the midline.

Classification:

Sea of Qi point. Window of the Sky point

Indications:

  • Headache, nasal obstruction, stiff neck.
  • Pain in shoulder and back, sore throat, dizziness/vertigo, neurasthenia, infantile convulsions, epilepsy, common cold, eye disorders, excessive lacrimation.
  • Epistaxis, hypertension, insomnia, angina pectoris, fever, diarrhea, loss of control of internal organ functions, hemiplegia, limbs weak cannot support the body.

Functions:

Expels Wind, activates the meridian, soothes the sinews, benefits the head, alleviates pain, opens the sense orifices.

Needling:

Perpendicular or oblique insertion .5 - .8 cun. Do not insert the needle deeply medially upwards to avoid injuring the medulla oblongata.
