Course Details

Program Length: one year

The Human Body I (4hrs/week 64 hours)

  • This course presents an introductory study of normal structures and functions of the human body. It includes a general introduction and organization of the body, anatomical terms, and begins to describe the upper body and the organs and structures within and how they play a role in health.
  • Topics include:
    • Organization of systems
    • Anatomical Terminology
    • Upper Body anatomy and physiology (heart, lungs, esophagus)

The Human Body II (4hrs/week 64 hours)

  • This course continues the study of what a healthy human body looks and functions. The emphasis for the latter half will be placed on the lower body and abdomen and their organs including the kidneys, liver, and intestines. Students will also learn more about the connections that coordinate the entire body to form a healthy and functioning individual.
  • Topics include:
    • Abdominal Anatomy and Physiology (Liver, Pancreas, Stomach, GB, Intestines, Kidney, Reproductive system)
    • Systemic systems (endocrine, nervous, vasculature)

Traditional Chinese Medicine Theories and Development (4hrs/week 2 terms 128 hours)

  • Yin Yang Theory
  • Qi, Blood, Body Fluids
  • 5 Elements
  • Zang-Fu organ system
  • Introduction to Diagnosis (tongue, pulse, face, questioning)
  • Channel & point introduction

Understanding Microbes (2hrs/week 32 hours)

Students will get a look at the principles of public health and how they relate to microbes. Giving students a chance to learn general concepts of microbes, their metabolism, growth, and development to better understand typical methods of cleaning.

Basic Biochemistry (2hrs/week 32 hours)

This course is all about what makes life tick. Students will examine the basics of biomolecules, including proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, DNA, and more to understand their role in all life processes.

Mechanism of Disease (2hrs/week 32 hours)

This course will be focused on the pathologic basis of diseases in Western medicine.

This includes infections, heart disease, lung diseases, head and neck dysfunction, digestive issues, urinary pathology, simple skin diseases, and muscular problems.

Discover Moxibustion (2hrs/week 32 hours)

Students will develop classroom and hands-on skills to safely and effectively light, manipulate, and extinguish moxa for a combination of direct, indirect and mild techniques.

Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of moxibustion application.

Cupping Therapy (2hrs/week 32 hours)

Students will learn classroom and hands-on skills to safely use multiple forms of cupping including fire, fire-throwing, pump, and silicone cups. Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of cupping application.

Clinic Safety (3 hrs)

In this course, students will learn the modern standardized clean needle techniques to safely remove needles from a patient. The techniques emphasized will be the standards developed in both North America & China.

Clinic Management (6 hrs)

This course will discuss what is necessary to operate an acupuncture clinic including cleaning requirements, supply management, business licensing, file management, and the importance of insurance.

Business Basics (6 hrs)
