Allergic Illnesses

Allergies such as runny nose, watery eyes, red eyes and uncontrollable sneezing are extremely common in Calgary, both during and off the allergy season.

In general, during allergy season, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine treatment emphasis on the symptoms (referred as "branch" in Chinese medicine). In between allergy seasons, the patient would continue to receive treatments, and we will emphasis is on strengthening the immune system (referred as "root" in Chinese medicine) also known as "The Righteous Qi."

Diagnosing an allergy using traditional Chinese medicine is far more individualized than it would be with Western medicine. Allergies are analyzed by the pattern of symptoms seen in the specific patient, and the treatment is designed to relieve these particular symptoms. The diagnosis most time will ended with the pathological accumulation of dampness (forms of water), and the treatment plan is determined based on the body conditions, history and other individual considerations.

Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, stainless steel, single use, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points depending on the diagnose based on traditional Chinese medicine, and herbal medicine is often prescribed for chronic cases.

Acupuncture, for the treatment of allergic conditions can be effective as few as one to three treatment sessions, it usually require further maintenance and Chinese herbal medicine to achieve the optimum outcome.
