Introducing Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes acupuncture, herbal medicine and other traditional medical practices originating in China, is considered as a complementary or alternative medical system in most of the western countries while remaining as a form of primary care throughout most of Asian countries.

what is acupuncture? Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which dates back thousands of years. It has a positive model of good health and function, and is defined as a method of preventing and treating disease, illness, injury or pain by allowing the body to heal naturally and improve its functions.

Moxacology is the study of moxibustion, a traditional Chinese medicine therapy, which involves the burning of a dried herb called mugwort near the surface of the skin. When deftly applied by a skillful practitioner, moxa heat can penetrate and radiate to different sites of the body to treat specific conditions, or invigorate the bodies defense mechanism for disease prevention. There are written records that the Chinese used moxibustion to treat diseases and prevent disease for more than 2,000 years.

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of causing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. This draws up the underlying tissues. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis is formed and localized healing takes place.
