Position Overview
The Alberta College of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACATCM) invites applications for a permanent, full-time faculty position to provide academic leadership in health research and policy development in support of its Bachelor of Acupuncture (B.Ac) degree program.
This position is intended to establish and sustain research capacity, scholarly leadership, and policy-oriented inquiry relevant to acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and integrative health within a Canadian health-care context. The role focuses on building a research-informed academic environment consistent with degree-level expectations.
Key Responsibilities
(Primary focus: Health Research and Policy Leadership)
- Provide academic leadership in health research, health services research, and health policy development
- Lead the formulation of research agendas relevant to acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and integrative health
- Develop and submit competitive research grant proposals
- Conduct and/or supervise systematic reviews, clinical studies, trials, and applied research
- Support evidence-informed teaching and curriculum development within the Bachelor program
- Mentor faculty and students in research literacy and scholarly activity
- Contribute to institutional research planning, ethics processes, and scholarly governance
- Participate in Academic Council and research-related committees as appropriate
Teaching responsibilities, if any, will be limited and aligned with the leadership and research-focused nature of the role.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant field, such as:
- Health Sciences
- Health Policy
- Public Health
- Epidemiology
- Health Services Research
- or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in health research and/or health policy development
- Evidence of scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications, research leadership, or grant development
- Familiarity with Canadian health systems and research environments
- Ability to provide sustained academic leadership within a professional undergraduate degree context
Preferred Qualificatons / Assets
Experience working with professional or applied degree programs
Experience with regulated health professions
Knowledge of acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, or integrative health (asset, not required)
Experience supervising undergraduate or graduate research
Appointment Context
This is a permanent, institutionally anchored academic position intended to strengthen ACATCM’s research capacity and scholarly foundation. The position will be in place prior to implementation of the Bachelor of Acupuncture program and will support both program launch and long-term academic development.
Compensation
Compensation will be negotiated based on qualifications, teaching experience, and workload.
