Urinary Bladder Meridian (Toot Tai Yang) Points

UB-19 (Dan Shu)

Danshu 胆俞

English translation:

Gall Bladder Shu


On the back, 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the 10th thoracic vertebra.


Back-Shu point of the Gall Bladder


  • Pain in chest and sides, pulmonary tuberculosis/bone steaming fever.
  • Jaundice.
  • Bitter taste in the mouth, hepatitis, cholecystitis, vomiting/dry retching, distension and fullness in chest and abdomen, difficulty in swallowing, headache with chills, sore throat, irritability, axillary swelling, sperm in the urine.
  • All eye disorders, lacrimation, visual dizziness, visual problems, white veil in front of the eyes, eyes deviated or rolled back, congestion of blood in the eyes, pain in the eyebrows, pain in the nose, epistaxis, patient cannot lower his head and when there is epistaxis there are visual problems at the same time, dry tongue, spitting blood, pleurisy, coughing fits and pains in sides impeding breathing, shortness of breath, spasm in the chest, madness with fear, fear of dying, apoplexy due to Liver, poor digestion, gastritis, pain in abdomen or lower abdomen, opisthotonos with eyes rolled back, back pain, sciatica, contractures due to Yin (cold), cramps in calf which extend as far as the abdomen with anxiety, tuberculosis of the lymph glands, osseous tuberculosis.


Regulates and strengthens Gall Bladder Qi, resolves Gall Bladder/Liver Damp-Heat, clears Shaoyang pathogens.


Back-Shu points are corresponding points on the back where the Qi of the respective Zang-Fu organ is infused. If the Five Zang organs are diseased, abnormal reactions appear on the Back-Shu points.
