Our History
Founded in 1997 by Dr. Benny Xu, Doctor of Acupuncture
Alberta College of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACATCM) was founded on May 8, 1997, by the visionary Dr. Benny Xu. ACATCM is the first institution in Alberta to provide professional education and training for acupuncturists and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.
Exclusive Partnership with the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine
This historical partnership is the first of its kind between Canada and China in the education of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its milestone inspired a new collaborative effort on passing the knowledge of ancient Chinese medicine to Canadians in the twenty-first century.
Dr. Benny Xu Honoured with the Alberta’s Centennial Medal
Alberta’s Centennial Medal was awarded to Dr. Benny Xu by the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in recognition of the outstanding services and contributions to the development of the education and training of traditional Chinese medicine in Alberta.
Joint Venture with the Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine
Partnership with the Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine further enhanced our education program and ties with elite acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine institutions in China.
Partnership with Huatuo Institute
Huatuo Institute is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping the community with acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, as well as promoting the meaningful development of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.
ACATCM Celebrates its 20th Birthday
This event was attended by over 130 distinguished friends and guests. We were delighted to host Counsel General Lu Xu, Deputy Counsel Yin Juming of the PRC, Mr. Gary Mar, and Mr. Jason Luan. While they were unable to attend, Mayor Naheed Nenshi, Mr. Sean Chu and Mr. Jason Kenny sent their congratulations and best wishes.
Partnership with SNAPTCM
Sino North American Partnership For Traditional Chinese Medicine (SNAPTCM) is an international collaborative effort between Beijing Wanfang Data, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China, Alberta College of Acupuncture and TCM, Huatuo Institute, and the Huatuo Health Society.
Partnership with the Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine
This partnership points to a bright future of cooperation for the two academic institutions, with its best wishes for the development of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.
First Official Acupuncture Research Launched in Canada
Welcoming our 25th anniversary in 2022, we are excited to announce that the Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACATCM) has now partnered with The University of Calgary for the Complementary Health Integration Project (C.H.I.P.). The C.H.I.P. program further extended our leadership in community services, education, research, and advancing the acupuncture profession.
ACATCM Celebrates its’ 25th Anniversary
ACATCM is excited to be celebrating a milestone achievement! This year marks the 25th anniversary of the school’s opening. To the graduates who have passed through the college doors and to the current students – a big thank you!
Dr. Benny Xu Awarded Platinum Jubilee Medal
